iron-gallotannate ink
   This ink is found in fountain pens, was used as early as the eighth century and with substantial improvement is still in use today. Iron salts are combined with gallotannic acid in an aqueous solution. This solution when applied to paper is first colorless but darkens quickly when oxidized by air.
